Tips For Moving

Moving is a stressful time for everyone. Trust me, no one truly enjoys the moving process. In fact, for a lot of people, moving can be one of the most stressful times in their life. I have had to move across the state on several occasions myself, and each time was just very hectic and stressful. I recognize that there is always going to be some stress associated with moving, and that there can be a lot to worry about in this way. However, I have had enough experience with moving to know that there are things one can do to make it easier. Even if they are small steps, there are certain ways to make your life a bit more simple during moving time and hopefully you can avoid some pretty common mistakes if you follow my advice. Without further ado, here are some tips and tricks that you can use when it comes time to move to a new home, apartment, or other living space.

The first tip I have for you is to create a moving budget. Moving can get very expensive very quickly. How can this be? What could possibly be so expensive about moving my stuff from one place to another? Well, you would be surprised to hear that many people end up spending way more money than they had originally planned on during their moving process. So, create a realistic budget that encompasses everything you are going to need to buy/do during the moving process so that you don’t end up spending more money than you need to do. Similarly, if you are going to be hiring a moving crew to help you move your stuff, make sure that is sticking to your budget as well. While hiring a moving crew is a bit more expensive than simply moving things yourself, it can take a lot of extra stress or pressure off of you and does not necessarily need to break the bank either.

When hiring a moving company, make sure you research fairly heavily into each company you look at. I suggest comparing reviews, prices, and quotes from at least 3 different companies to find the best deal for your money. You also want to hear what other customers have to say about the company because you do not want to end up with a bad moving experience due to negligence or malice of the company moving your stuff. It might also be helpful to take pictures of your items before and after moving; that way you can identify if the moving crew has broken or misplaced any of your things and can bring it up to the management without worrying about denial on their part. You have your evidence! Now use it.

Another tip for moving is to not skimp out on the packing supplies department. Moving can be messy and complicated, so you want to make sure that you have the proper packing supplies to really get your crap together. I recommend bubble wrap, packing tape, packing peanuts, corrugated boxes, and anything else you might need. You want to ensure that you are properly packing your things away in a good order so you can find them again when you need to. Packing is just as important as unpacking, so keep that in mind! It may be helpful to put items in their original containers or boxes if possible, so make sure you take advantage of that if you have those things on hand.
